It's Amazon Prime Day and the Fire TV Stick is reduced to just £19.99. It's already a fantastic deal, but the Fire TV Stick becomes an even more useful gadget with Kodi onboard. Here's how to install Kodi on Fire TV Stick. Plus how to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV.

Media streamers give you access to lots of content and while they might seem locked down, you can sideload apps onto the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick to get even more. It's not totally straight forward so here's how to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV.

In this step by step guide, we're going to show you how to install (sideload) Kodi on your Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. You'll need to have your Fire TV setup and working and a computer connected to the same network.

Note that sideloading apps is something you do at your own risk. While it's perfectly safe and normal to do so, we can't make any guarantees. There are different versions of Kodi available so if you're unsure, pick the 'current release' rather than the 'development builds'. The latter may be unstable with bugs and could crash your device. Step 1 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

First things first, you need download the latest stable Kodi apk available for Android ARM architecture. Do this by going to the Kodi downloads page and selecting it underneath the Android logo.

First things first, you need download the latest stable Kodi apk available for Android ARM architecture. Do this by going to the Kodi downloads page and selecting it underneath the Android logo.

Step 2 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

You also need to download and install a tool which will allow you to sideload Kodi onto your Fire TV. Amazon Fire TV Utility App on tool but we're going to use adbFire app which works on PC, Mac and Linux. Download it here, and extract the compressed folder to a location of your choice or move to applications on Mac (you may need to adjust your security settings to open in).

Sometimes your desktop is a simple and easy place and you can delete it when you're done if you don't plan on doing any other sideloading.

Step 3 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

With your Amazon Fire TV plugged in and working, navigate to Settings, go to Developer Options and switch ADB debugging to On. This will enable you to install Kodi.

Step 4 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

In order to install Kodi on your Fire TV, you need to know its IP address. Find this out by going to Settings > About > Network. Write it down for later.

Step 5 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

Open your extracted adbFire folder and run the adbFire.exe or launch it from applications if you're on Mac. Click on New to create a new Fire TV device profile.

Now fill out the form for setting up a new device by giving it a name – Fire TV should do it – and type in the IP address which you wrote down earlier. The rest can be left as default so hit Save.

Step 6 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

With your device added to adbFire, select it in the Current device list and click on Connect. You should see the device's IP address appear under Connected devices.

Step 7 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

We're nearly done now, so click on Install APK and browse to where you downloaded Kodi in step one. Select it and wait for the progress bar to become full. You'll see a confirmation message after successfully installing Kodi on your Amazon Fire TV.

Step 8 of 8: How to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV

Once you've finished installing Kodi on your Amazon Fire TV, press both Select and Play buttons on the remote for more than 5 seconds to reboot it.

Sadly, there won't be a Kodi icon on the homescreen as the Fire TV does not add a shortcut for sideloaded apps. To launch Kodi go to Settings > Applications > Manage All Installed Applications. Scroll down and select Kodi then click Launch Application.
